Molecular Ecology paper on bumblebees out in final version

2 Jan 2024

The recent paper focusing on bumblebees (Bombus spp.) from the UK co-authored by Carmelo has just been published in its final version.

The paper is open access and published in the issue 21 of volume 32 (2023) of the journal Molecular Ecology. The study deals with various aspects of genetic diversity and divergence, in light of the use of these bees as pollinators and of the introduction of non-native species to the UK. One surprising result is the evidence of limited introgression of non-native bumblebees into native bumblebees. Genetic data has been obtained genome-wide using genome reduction techniques (RADseq).
